Marina L. Ramirez is a Senior Associate with Alvarez-Glasman & Colvin representing school districts, community college districts, cities, police departments, and special districts with a focus on labor and employment and governance and leadership.

Prior to joining AGC, Ms. Ramirez represented school districts, county offices of education, and county and city agencies in matters related to labor and employment, bargaining and negotiations, governance and leadership, technology, Title IX, litigation, facilities and business, investigations, student services, special education, and implications of marijuana.

Ms. Ramirez works closely with city managers, police chiefs, school superintendents, board members, and other administrators to ensure school district board policies and administrative regulations are updated and compliant with current federal and state laws. Ms. Ramirez guides clients through applicable legal authorities, including the Education Code, Government Code, California Code of Civil Procedure, California Public Records Act, EERA, FERPA, ADA, IDEA, FEHA, Title IX, Title VII, California Tort Claims Act, Brown Act, California Administrative Procedures Act, a diverse array of school district board policies, administrative regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and other relevant case law and federal and state statutes and regulations.

Ms. Ramirez received her Juris Doctorate from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law, and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mexican-American Studies and Africana Studies from the University of Arizona. Ms. Ramirez became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated during her tenure at University of Arizona. While in law school, Ms. Ramirez was an Associate Editor for the UDC Law Review and President of the Latino/a Law Student Association.

Ms. Ramirez currently serves as a Board member of two non-profit organizations. She is a Founding Board member of Excelencia Latina which is committed to advancing the educational interest of Latino Families in the Inland Empire through organized family engagement in schools, year-round cultural celebrations, and advocacy for and recognition of student success. She is also a Board member of Making Education the Answer (META) that provides opportunities to the underserved Latino student community in Southern California through college scholarships and educational mentorship. Ms. Ramirez serves as the President of the Southern California Chapter for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Alumni Association (CHCI-AA) where she leads the Chapter’s efforts in promoting active and visible leadership in the Latino community, while providing members with increased opportunities for professional development, networking, and—most importantly—opportunities to mentor our Latino youth.”
